> I recall reading a
> number of articles
> citing Virginia as
> being such an easy
> state to buy large
> quantities of guns in
> that it was the major
> supplier for people who
> then turned around
> and sold them illegally
> in most large cities on
> the East Coast that had
> more restrictive laws.

[wow, no Dittohead junk]

You're right. While that's not an issue here because the guy got his legally, yes, Virginia has been a source of guns for other places. Mayor Bloomberg (NYC) ran a sting in Virginia. A straw sale bill has been passed that is designed to prevent any more stings. (New York is, what else, using the courts to sue Virginia gun dealers.)

"Virginia is the “gun running capital of America– firearms have been easy to obtain there for a long time, and that directly contributed in huge part to the tragedy that occured on Monday. The gun guys are actively trying to distract us from making things better by suggesting that more guns are still a solution. But they’re not. The only way we’re going to be able to begin to prevent this from happening, yet again, is by seriously reconsidering our gun culture. Firearms are a problem and a danger. And as we learned tragically earlier this week, we ignore that danger at our own risk."

"Bloomberg has one goal: reducing the number of illegal firearms on the streets. Linghamfelter might have forgotten that Bloomberg is a Republican, and also an elected American official. They’re supposed to be on the same side, both working for the safety and security of Americans. Going after Bloomberg legislatively is a boneheaded and dangerous move– he’s fighting to keep illegal guns off the streets. And legislation like this is making sure that doesn’t happen. Virginia’s citizens should hold each and every legislator there accountable for making sure criminals in Virginia and other states have all the access to the guns they need to kill thousands of Americans every year."

> I guess a cartoon is
> about the only thing
> left to parody these
> guys

Or do more? Oh, no. Nooooooooo.

Look at Dubya in the cartoon.

1. It makes a perfect punch-me or voodoo doll for liberals, or something to hang upside down from the rear bumper of a liberal's vehicle.

2. It makes a perfect gesture to replicate elsewhere if Bush ever gives up (surrenders) to Democrat probes into his administration's actions.

As I've noted elsewhere, this cartoon is what you'd expect on playpen college campuses, in the urban free independent weekly newsletters, or from the worst of the stereotypical Euro-Trash, not only to describe the USA but also Bush.

It's similar in nature, maturity, and IQ level to cartoons about Jews, Israel, and the USA that are drawn by anti-Semites elsewhere in the Middle East.

What's also of note is that many people have that mentality.

I guess a cartoon is about the only thing left to parody these guys, because in real life it is almost impossible.

Look for Colbert to be overtaken by events and become superfluous.
