Loved Kurt Vonnegut in my college years- I first was introduced to him by the movie "Slaughterhouse Five" then went on to read "Breakfast of Champions" and most of his other works. I think of him as the Mark Twain of my generation, even though he never achieved that kind of stature. He combined creativity, compassion for the human race, and common sense with intellect, and I am better off for having read his books. He was gifted, inspiring and totally unique-everything a writer should be.

I have cancelled all other plans on hearing Vonnegut would be appearing for an interview. His off-the-cuff remarks were priceless: humor and widom in the best combination possible.

Perhaps one day he will be studied in English class like we study Charles Dickens today. The champion of his day against the abuses of the system against the poor and downtrodden. Captives in their own society. Mindless minions of a system broken that needed fixing and didnt even know they were squeaking.

Vonnegut will most likely fall into Dickens category. However having read all his books, I have a hard time putting him in Dickens category but you never know. Little Oliver Twist might just think Vonnegut a hero.

Ice-nine Mr. Vonnegut. Ice-nine.
