well cool veal if i brought it on myself oh well, i dont care. once again i dont care what someone on the computer thinks about me. keith, maybe words dont hurt you, but most people are hurt by words more than sticks and stones. why should they let it slide? i think we let too much slide all ready. why do the victims have to be "the bigger person?". as the victims they can take whatever stance they choose.

you don't have be offended by what person says you know who you are that's what basketball team should've thought about before acting, like that old saying which is true. sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. that what they should've done just let it slide.

Mr. Mountaintop, you brought that on yourself. You called Clint Courtney "stupid" and a "moron". There was no call for that.

So what does "happy to be nappy" really mean? Enlighten us, please.

clint courtney, are u really so stupid that u do not understand that it is the person's intent when they say certain things. yes i too am "happy to be nappy" but that does not mean someone should be able to use that as a deragatory remark towards me. i am also what america considers to be overweight for my height and i am happy, does this mean i want someone calling me fat ass? sure my friends do so in a lighthearted manner, not with malice. as i stated before u moron, its the intent.

Alphonso Soriano.

funny, i have a different recollection of history than you do. when howard was originally fired from wnbc, imus was uncharacteristically silent (unlike his colleagues on wfan in regards his termination)

when the fcc was coming down hard on stern, i really dont recall imus saying anything....and i was in nyc at the time

but if you have a link to those comments it would be appreciated

imus became a liability to nbc and cbs when major advertisers pulled their spots...and they werent coming back

this was a money decision, not one based on morality

I looked up the word "nap" in the dictionary and it says "soft fuzzy surface". Supposedly this is offensive to some people and got Imus fired. I have found some of Imus's previous comments offensive, but I spend a lot of time trying to get my hair "soft" and relatively "fuzzy" so I feel that picking apart words that are offiensive to some people and not to others another form of chaos.

Uncle Joe Mccarthy:
"where was imus when howard stern was getting fined millions, or having stations pull his programing?"

Imus was supporting Stern all the way on that, even though they were bitter enemies.

(I feel like most of the people supporting the firing never listened to or watched the show.)

mICAT72:
"AN OLD WHITE MAN LIKE IMUS MOST LIKELY HAS KNOWN SINCE HE WAS A YOUNG BUCK WHAT A HO WAS."

I don't even know anymore what it means. Is it slang for "whore"? It used to mean that, but it certainly doesn't seem to be used in that sense anymore. What do you think it means?

(Once again, dear, please lose the caps. Hit the caps lock button.)

imus' termination has nothing to do with the loss of free speech

there is no free speech on the public airwaves...that is why they are regulated

where was imus when howard stern was getting fined millions, or having stations pull his programing?

and trust me...it wasnt imus' original on air comments that got him fired...it was his bs apologies, and his non contrite appearance with that hack sharpton

come on...when he finally became aware of his termination, he couldnt stop ragging on sharpton

bitter old men dont belong on the radio...they belong on some park bench feeding the pigeons

A pure money decision in my book. Jackson and Sharpton are bona fide shakedown artists. The good thing about Imus being fired is that they won't get any money from the "white folk shakedown".

Either way and from any mouth, I abhor the word ho.

Is a sad day for America , when we allow two of the most racist and hate-filled instigators in recent times stir us up in such a manner. What I am waiting for now is the date, that Al Sharpton , and Jesse Jackson plan on boycotting C B S records for the explicit use of racist and sexist remarks, by some of their artists, but I know that won't happen, because black rappers, and comedians have special privileges, when a rapper goes on to describe how he makes his crack-head hoe give him a blowjob for a piece of cheese, he is only describing the reality that he tragically suffered by growing up in a project. And when he describes in detail, how he emptied his clip into another human being -- don't distress, that is only a metaphor , and he is only perpetuating the pain and suffering that he has suffered at the hands of white AMERICA!!! While I personally don't agree with the comments that Imus expressed last week I believe he has gone above and beyond to repair the situation . I also wanted to post the following question --- When is Jesse Jackson , a known racist and adulterer, and his bigot friend Al Sharpton gonna make amends, to the Jewish , and Hispanic communities for the repeated verbal assaults in the past.BTW When will their fund raisers start to replace the Imus Radiothon ?

Yes, Matilda. We don't really like comments like that here. Please read the guidelines below. If it happens again we delete the comment; if it becomes a habit we wind up having to ban people. We don't mind very spirited discussion and don't want a "thought police" censoring views that even disagree with our posts. But we do hope people use common sense and if they don't, then we conclude we'll do it for them and for our site. JG

MlCAT72, just my two cent's worth; 'politically correct' is a term that has its place, but also is used by a few when seeming to try to shame others who don’t agree with them into silence; a true dramatic irony. It is not 'politically correct' to hold the value of caring for others and to say what you have to say in terms and in ways that do not cause wound or bloodshed... unless it's a matter of real life and death.

Holding the value of trying to do least harm, rather than being purposely reckless with words and actions, is an ancient ideal; one that most leaders we hallow, strive toward. Reason? To say or act recklessly or without thought, often sets off conflagrations with others. We can all see how war saps creative life, undercuts innovations and thieves all time and resource, and instead leaves us with anger and ashes, which after the first burn-off are pretty much interchangeable. I'd say your principle is "Do unto others..." Personally, though most of us are imperfect at it, I think it's a fine goal.

also Holly, thank you for posting this topic and again, just my 2 cents worth about that matter: I think it would elucidate a lot for many of us if we could know exactly how the corporate decision was made to withdraw or break what likely would have been a written legal document spelling out Mr. Imus' two-week probation. Can such a serious a priori agreement really just be set aside like that...

This sudden about-face in what seemed an executed probationary process, leads me to wonder if irony and fact are one: that the very reason Mr. Imus was hired, may also be the real reason he was let go. If 'the big M' was the bottom line in hiring him, and if 'the big M' was subsequently threatened... then letting Mr. Imus go may have had little to do with corporate's liking or disliking of the timbre or aim of his speech.
