School Administrator Gives Up $ 800,000

In a world where so many people are out for themselves, a Fresno California superintendent has made an amazing gesture.

Larry Powell has agreed to ‘retire’ and in doing so give up nearly $ 800,000 in salary and benefits over the next three years. He will then be ‘hired’ back at a base salary of just $ 31,000 a year.

And now he’s announced he’s giving that salary to charity

Let’s see… $800,000 for 3 years is appropriate recompense to supervise a hayseed school district where the average income is $20,000 a year?

No wonder our kids (grandchildren in my case) are so stupid.

    Steve-

That’s not a “hayeed” school, that’s Fresno School district. Fresno is 34th nationwide out of 275 of the largest population centers.

Its larger than Atlanta, Kansas City, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Honolulu, Saint Louis, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Saint Paul, Newark, and many others. Maybe this can help you understand why California has so many more congressmen than any other state.

It is a wonderful and generous gesture that I am sure many “at risk” students will benefit from. This fellow deserves the Presidential medal of Freedom. This is an inspiration to all that love and serve this country and a slap in the face to those that rape it for what it is worth.

    God Save Larry Powell!

I’d reply to Allens’ eloquent rebut but let’s let the ‘hayseeds’ have their time in the sun.

And what the hell 800k in Fresno is merely chump change.

    God Save Larry Powell!

“God save Larry Powell”? What’s that to do with this post?

Larry Powell is the man in the story.

  • SteveK

Why is Larry Powell worth a ‘story’ other than to point out the excess of financial waste in administrative costs in public education?

  • Allen

Thank You for the story Patrick.

Sorry you lost face Steve. I promiss not to take advantage.

Now here is a Real American.

Congress, shame on you…. you should learn a thing or 2 from this guy.

  • Allen

    Stray Mongrel-

Yes they should by funding what government is supposed to fund by equitably taking from the population through taxation, so that concerned individuals don’t have to foot the whole bill on their own.
