Obama Will Not Partake in Fox/CBC Debate

This appears to be playing well with the primary voters.

What are the specific objections to this one? I thought Fox News on the right, CBC on the left made some sense; they don’t have to pretend Fox is objective to get on TV.

  2. Kevin H says:

It’s not playing terribly well with this primary voter, but I’ll second carp’s question before I make up too much of my mind.

  3. kritter says:

I see nothing wrong with boycotting the network of Hannity and Coulter. After all, they were the ones who falsely broadcast the story that Obama attended a madrassa. Let them pay the price for their sloppy reporting.

  4. superdestroyer says:

This is probably the future of politics in the United States. The Democrats know that they have a locked in majority (no matter what Mr. Schraub says about blacks being intelligent voters). Edwards and Obama know that they do not need any cross over voters to win elections. So why risk screwing up when they would prefer to control every setting to their advantage.

Of course, if Senator Obama or former Senator Edwards are not sharp enough to engage Fox News then how can we expect them to stand up to Iraq, North Korea, or others.

  5. kritter says:

Yes, SD but during the Bush presidency, administration officials routinely appeared on FOX or Hannity or Limbaugh’s radio show to reach their base. More recently, we have seen more of a crossover. I think it might push FOX a little more into the middle.

  6. Daniel says:

Call me crazy but why the heck should Dem primary voters care about FOX? Republicans don’t vote in Democratic primaries so what is there to lose?

    I could care less.

  7. kritter says:

I feel the same. Democrats don’t watch FOX, unless they do a big interview with someone like Bill Clinton. If I was advising Obama, I’d tell him to skip it -looks smarter.

  8. superdestroyer says:

    kritter,

All of the other networks are considered to lean toward the Democrats. Yet, during elections, those networks participate in Republican primaries. I would expect the same from Obama or Edwards.

Yet, in the futre, Obama or Edwards know that they will never have to appeal to any conservative voters during the general election. They know that there are enough voters who will automatically vote for a Democratic that they only need to pick up a few monderate voters. Thus, going on Fox is all downside risk with no upside. In the long run, it is just a sign of weakness but that weakness just will not matter in the future.

its not about Dem primary voters, its about not lending your name to give credence to Fox as a legitimate non-partisan journalistic entity. It ain’t – its Republican propaganda and it should be treated as such.

  10. kritter says:

    I agree with you, SD.

Even in Maryland, we have certain local conservative radio stations that Democrats will avoid if they feel they have enough of a lead to be able to do so. Because it is a blue state, they can get away with it, and actually would do more harm than good by going on them. They are well aware that the audience is not a friendly one-same thing here. But Fox really did themselves no favors by running that fake Madrassa story without fact checking it first.

Bull feathers. None of the other networks

  12. Proud Liberal says:

sorry about the abbreviated post, but what I was saying is that the other networks aren’t actively engaging in propaganda for one side or the other. They may have a bias one way or the other from time to time, but that is not what Fox is all about. Fox is propaganda. Everything. EVERYTHING is presented in a way to assist Republicans and damage Democrats. Why would any Democrat assist them? Time to call a spade a spade. Fox has a right to be out there, but they don’t have a right to be considered “fair and balanced”, that will be decided by the viewers.

  13. Please, SD. Enough. If it suddenly became an RNC talking point that the sky had suddenly turned deep chartreuse Fox would be having “scientists” on to discuss what had caused this strange phenomenon even as everyone else in the world was noting that it still looked the same to them. That’s what Fox is, not simply a network that “leans” towards the right but a semi-official party mouthpiece.

Rile O’Billy “Tell me Senator Obama, What did you take with you from the Madrassa you attended in Portugal that will aid you in being president.”

Obama “Mr. Oreilly I did not nor have I ever been to Portugal.”

Rile O’Billy “So you admit you have been to a Madrassa?”

Obama “I did not say that I said I never been to Portugal.”

Rile O’Billy “But if you had gone to Portugal you would have attended a Madrassa?”

Obama “Perhaps, Perhaps not. However the point is moot because having never been to Portugal I do not know if they have Madrassas.”

Rile O’Billy “Fair enough. So tell me senator how is it that you have never been to Portugal? Do you not like those Spaniards?”

Obama “They are not Spaniards, they are Portugeese.”

Rile O’Billy”Thats what you say. But how can we trust your judgement in this matter?”

Obama “Because if you are in Spain You do as the Spaniards do. If in Portugal you do as the Portugeese do.”

Rile O’Billy “So now your admitting you have been to Portugal and in contact with Spaniards?”

Obama “No I said that Had I attended a Madrassa in Portugal I would have become a Portugeese and not a Spaniard.”

Rile O’Billy “So its fair to say that having never been to Portugal that you have never been in a madrassa?

Obama “No I have never been in a Portugeese Madrassa.”

Rile O’Billy”But you have been to Spain?”

Obama “NO I have not been to Spain either.”

Rile O’Billy ‘So having never been to Portugal or Spain how can either of these countries trust you to look after their interests if your elected president?

    Obama ‘They can’t Because I….”

Rile O’Billy ‘So you admit that you have no interest in Portugal or Spain because neither one of them have Madrassas?”

Obama “I never said that I said that If Spain Or Portugal had Madrassas I would be A spaniard or a Portugesse and not a Indonesian”

Rile O’Billy “Whats Indonesia have to do with Portugal or Spain?

    Obama ‘Nothing.”

Rile O’Billy ‘Ill give you the last word Senator.”

Hillary “What about me? You Never asked me a question”

Rile O’Billy “Have you been to Portugal?”

Hillary “Yes When Bill and I was…..”

Rile O’Billy “So you were in the Portugese Madrassa with Obama?”

Obama “Rile, Hillary and I have never been alone together.”

Rile O’Billy “So you say. But what say you Mr. President.”

Bill “Let me repeat I have never ever had sex with that woman.”

  15. Elrod says:

Good for Obama. Fox News is a propaganda network. It is to the right what the Nation is to the left. The Fox News analysts would spend the whole time denigrating each and every candidate after the debate finished because, well, they hate all the Democrats. Imagine if The Nation hosted a Republican primary debate. Can you imagine the sacrcasm?

But if that’s not reason enough, consider this: Regular Fox News viewers voted for Bush over Kerry by an 88-7 margin. That’s higher than white, evangelical Christians, gun-owners, conservatives, or any other demographic except “Republicans.” Fox News watchers are not swing voters. They despise the Democratic Party as much as Nation readers despise the Republicans.

  16. I don’t watch much TV and don’t get CNN, Fox News or MSNBC. On the rare occasions when I stay in a hotel, I watch all of them and they are equally annoying.

  17. CaseyL says:

Fox News isn’t a news station. It’s a televised version of a tabloid. Fox doesn’t jsut “skew” news to conform to its viewpoint: it peddles factual untruths and continued to do so after they’ve been revealed as factual untruths.

Also, Fox’s stated purpose is to support the Bush Administration specifically, and the GOP generally.

Fox News should be relegated to the bottom of the journalistic trash heap. it should be regarded as no more a news organization than the Weekly Star or Globe – you know, those “newspapers” that are always putting the same alien on the cover and proclaiming that it’s meeting with the President.

  18. White Agent says:

Good. They are sure to be rigged in favor of the republicans some how anyway. Especially now, since republican voters are a rare commodity. Fox and CBC are bound to pull some kind of shenanigan.

  19. Better look around, because ALL TV news is like this now.

  20. White Agent says:

Nobody- Senator Obama is not an “Indonesian”. He is a Born U.S. Citizen. His father was born in Kenya.

Your words-[Obama “I never said that I said that If Spain Or Portugal had Madrassas I would be A spaniard or a Portugesse and not a Indonesian]

    I disagree.

  22. carpeicthus says:

I agree that Obama actually has a better excuse than the others to avoid Fox, but why avoid them? Clinton did go on, and to use the vernacular, he pwn3d it.

  23. kritter says:

Its true. Fox is nothing but a mouthpiece for the RNC. They are nothing but this administration’s talking points and propaganda. They thrive on trashing liberals.

Why should the Democrats allow them any piece of the action in ’08?

  24. Lynx says:

Nobody, you should do that for a living LOL. Very well done, though to be totally acurate you would need to add some interruptions by O’Reilly and a few “shutup!”s.

  25. Nobody says:

Space Lynx. Its all about space. Nobody read it anyway cause it was too long.

And the one person who did. White AGent…..lol….he musta thought I was being serious.

I did another piece over in the I want an Ipod and I dont think anyone read that one cause it was too long.

  26. DLS says:

Liberal media only need apply, not sometimes-not-so-liberal media like Fox. It’s no surprise that the Dims would do this to Fox; the liberal media itself treats Fox like a heretic or traitor for not following the Party Line and politically correct “journalistic” ideology.

  27. kritter says:

Not the old, its all the fault of the “liberal MSM” canard! DLS- when was the last time you changed stations????

  28. DLS says:

    > “liberal MSM canard!

Wrong again. I recommend you pull out of your nosedive — it would look better.

  29. themiddle says:

I think the problem is that Fox is just an editorial network, and why would a democrat want to appear in an editorial where they are going to be slammed. I think deomcrats do the right thing by not going on Fox, but I think they should extend it to a total boycott of the network. There is aboslutely nothing to gain by being on any of their shows.
