I forgot to add Mike Huckabee. But none of the candidates who are portraying themselves are actually raising any money.

Mitt's chance to be a friend to hunters and 2A supporters was when he was Gov. of Massachusetts... and he wasn't a friend.

Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul, and ex Sen Gravel from Alaska- who can't afford the handlers, but have not a prayer of getting the nominations either. Actually, some who are just getting into the race like Tommy Thompson also seem pretty genuine.

The interesting thing is, even with their handlers, the first tier candidates seem to be putting their collective feet in their collective mouths daily- McCain now claims he "misspoke" during his stroll through the Baghdad market, Giuliani is having to explain his choice of Bernard Kerik as his checkered past is revealed, and Romney made the hunting gaffe. Clinton seems to be unable to reconcile her vote on the war with her party's position, and Obama has lost his halo with the press, and at times has appeared very thin-skinned around them.

An AP reporter unintentionally (or perhaps intentionally) misinterpreted the two hunting trips that a campaign staff member cited as being the only two trips he has ever been on. Subsequently, several other media organizations cited the inaccurate AP report in order to accuse Romney of exaggerating the truth in order to win over voters. On Friday, Romney stated without equivocation, “The report that I only hunted twice is incorrect. I’ve hunted small game numerous times, as a young man and as an adult. I’m by no means a big-game hunter. I’m more Jed Clampett than Teddy Roosevelt. Of course, the left-leaning media continues to focus on this AP report days after it was shown to be inaccurate. When it to comes to ’straight shooters’ I would trust Romney over most media organizations any day.

If this is correct, then I stand-corrected and apologize for my past criticism of Mitt Romney on this particular issue.

I stand by, however, my assertion that Romney and Kerry should go hunting together. That would be pretty funny, if not awkward.

So, who in the early going seems to be the most straightforward, non-handled Presidential candidate so far?

p.s. bad news media =don't read
      bad politicians = don't elect

Why would you draw that conclusion, casualobserver? No, they are a necessary evil like death and taxes- I certainly am not an anarchist. My proximity to the DC area has made me more cynical after years of observing the gap between what they say and what they do. Also, most candidates cannot operate anymore without handlers, who sanitize whatever they say and do. Mitt, in particular, travels with a very large entourage.

Just out of curiosity, kritter.........the inference I draw from your parallel is that you are then inclined to anarchy as the antidote to politicians?

Then why bother to read media reports at all? It seems that we can find a way to blame the liberal, MSM for just about everything these days. I,OTOH, instinctively mistrust what comes out of politicians mouths. They tend to bend the truth to fit whatever audience they are in front of. When they try to please everyone, they end up pleasing no one.

Maybe John Kerry and Mitt Romney ought to go hunting together.

Kerry could teach Romney how to correctly use a gun, and Romney could teach Kerry about what the Second Amendment actually means.

It amazes me how presidential candidates from both parties, in an effort to get into the good graces of "pro-gun" voters, go such efforts to prove that they're hunters rather than talking about the Second Amendment.

Frankly, I could care less whether a politician owns a gun or hunts or not, and even if I were a gun-owner or a hunter, I wouldn't care. What matters to me (and should matter to all Americans), is whether the politician understands and is willing to defend the Second Amendment.
