That reminds me. Have you seen the book “Killed Cartoons: Casualties in the war on free expression” by Wallis?
I’m about half way through. I guess I always realized more went into it, but political cartoons were what got me reading the editorials as a kid. And even as an adult, I often find more truth in the 4×6 box than I often find in a 3000 word piece.
No I haven’t. I LOVE political cartoons and agree with you that more can be said in a political cartoon or in a long, windy print piece (or blog piece…although as we know I NEVER write windy pieces…:)
Oh, I’m happy to have brought it up to your attention then. The chicago suntimes gave me the recommendation yesterday. Higgins, their normal cartoonist did one essay, and the book was the topic of the other,
I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s a very quick read. I wish I had a scanner, I’d like to show some of them… some of which I can understand, might not be fit for the local paper.
