US President George W Bush Saturday slammed the Democrats for imposing restrictive conditions on war spending and insisted that he will veto both House and Senate versions of the bills on Iraq that contain deadlines for withdrawal of troops from the country, reports a leading Indian TV channel ZEE News.
Well then, he will not have a funding bill then. Its his choice.
When did a veto become “war” against Congress? I must have missed that somewhere.
Bush has already won this battle. It was won the day Iran foolishly captured 15 Brit sailors in Iraqi waters. Even self-described liberals are waking up and smelling the coffee. Thank you, Iran, for giving Bush and Blair the political cover they needed.
Here’s how it will play out on the Iraq war funding:
1. Bush vetoes compromise House/Senate bill;
2. It goes back to Congress.
3. They pony up the money, stripping out any troop withdrawal deadlines, but keep money for peanuts, spinach, etc. in the bill;
4. Bush signs the bill even with the pork, because our soldiers need the money to keep the successful surge going.
With the “drip-drip” of progress in Baghdad and surroundings, Dems one-by-one get religion on Iraq. They’ll be for it after they were ‘agin it.
McCain wins 2008 election, and one house of Congress reverts to Republican control.
