I don’t think it’s so far off the mark. I mean really, does anyone think for a moment the USA would be capable of uniting in common cause to fight the equivalent of WWII today? The culture of division has become too entrenched – and what better symbol of gratuitious polarization than the tea party? AFAIC it is rightwing political America that has created this dysfunctional opposite of one country untied in common cause.
Hellyea we’d be able to fight an enemy like that. We love to fight. Problem is we haven’t had any real enemies to fight since the Soviet Union collapsed. Thats a good thing, but the people need to have something. That’s why Bush tried so hard to make the terrorists into a much bigger deal than they were and are.
I have to agree with this assertion. If we had not run a debt, we would not have been able to enter into World War II, and thus, would have given the Germans a chance to win outright.
A Godwin ‘toon!
Ok this is a bit much don’t ya think?

Missing is the Stars and Bars.
Calling people nazis and racists every time they disagree makes the problem worse, not better.
LOGAN PENZA-
But we are not speaking, “Logan”,…remember?
Yes, going into debt allowed us to win a legitimate war.
.. and get into a lot of useless ones.
Agree, partially, ProfElwood. Going into debt enabled us to Win World War II–that “legitimate” war.
However, getting into a lot of “useless” (and illegitimate) ones got us into some atrocious debts—not the other way around.
Paagh!
It’s only paper.
Fiscal conservatism – launch idiotic wars, then threaten the nation with default unless the opposing party pays for them.
