Allen, if you can prove intent to mislead, I’m all for sending them to jail. But, what should be done for the DNC then, who is actually affiliated with candidate rather than just a 3rd party organization? If we’re going with zero-tolerance on this sort of thing, should their candidates be disqualified?
Personally, although I don’t doubt that there are plenty of people willing to play dirty in politics, I think it is likely these were honest mistakes. Inexcusable mistakes, yes, but not intentional. I just don’t think it makes sense for organizations to be trying to pull this stuff. You would have to be darn sure you are only targeting your opposition, and that means you are only sending to known operatives on the other side. Those people aren’t likely to be fooled.
I just think there are plenty of more effective ways for dirty partisans to be directing their money and time then on a stunt like this which is unlikely to work and very likely to make them look like dirty partisans.
ETA: I’d be in favor of a policy that requires any mailings that include information about voting to be reviewed by the election board (whatever the name of that is) before being sent out to make sure the information regarding the election is accurate.
You know, they really need to start sending these conservatives to jail for this crap.
Interesting, the DNC did misleading robo-calls. Both groups claim they were trying to reach only their own members.
