Just When You Thought It Couldn’t Get Any Worse.

This report from the New York Times:

Insurgents detonated a bomb in a car with two children in it after using the children as decoys to get through a military checkpoint in Baghdad, an American general said Tuesday.

Speaking at a news briefing at the Pentagon, Maj. Gen. Michael Barbaro, deputy director for regional operations at the Joint Staff, said American soldiers had stopped the car at the checkpoint but had allowed it to pass after seeing the two children in the back seat.

“Children in the back seat lower suspicion, he said, according to a transcript. “We let it move through. They parked the vehicle. The adults run out and detonate it with the children in back.

This has to be the most despicable, cowardly action I have ever seen.

Maybe, just maybe, it will unite the Iraqi people against these murderers once and for all.

I echo your expressed hope that this would shock people into a changed course of action. But I’m pessimistic.

The Iraqis, I think, are largely shell shocked and unable to do much except look for cover or escape. The Arab world at large is too indifferent or blood thristy for revenge (of whatever flavor) to do anything meaningful.

The reaction of the Arab bloc to the Darfur massacres is telling. They close ranks to protect the Sudanese government.

Many MSM newpapers and cable shows have addressed the Sunnis sheiks turning against the outside insurrgents. But if the Shia government doesn’t allow the Sunnis into the government and share the oil wealth, the Sunnis local leaders won’t accept the central government and many make the situation even worse.

Maybe this horrific terrorist attack will wake up western liberals to the kind of enemy we face, and that for us to retreat will give these barbarians a victory. But I know that’s just wishful thinking, in fact I’m sure much of the left will find a way to blame this car bombing on America and the Bush administration.

    “It’s Bush’s fault! It’s Bush’s fault!”

Guess you’re right ;) But seriously, I don’t think that this incident is going to quell the violence. If you look at the various civil wars throughout the years, all kinds of terrible things happened and yet the violence continued. Once you’ve let this particular genie out of the bottle, it’s hard to get him back in.

  5. DLS says:

It shows you what kind of vermin we’re dealing with. Will some lefties ever learn?

Will the USA (and Israel) be blamed again by the Usual Suspects (Enemy Within)?

  6. Rob says:

That little quote at the end stating that moderate is not a four letter word was truly snide and completely off the mark. Are you equating people with views outside the mainstream (a highly dubious and vague concept in itself) with the murderous vermin who would use children in this damnable manner? This is a glib and moronic insinuation which, by the way, reveals an utter lack of moderation in your own thinking.

  7. domajot says:

Would it make you guys feel better if someone said ‘the Lefies did it’?

Would it change the tragedy in Iraq?
Would it bring the dead to life?

Some people would find a funeral an appropriate venue for making snide, meaningless, political jabs.

    We read a tragic story.
And this is your partiotic response?

  8. Rob:

“‘Moderate’ is not a 4-letter word.” is a tagline I’ve used for years on all my postings and on my website ModerateVoters.org. It has nothing to do with this story.

This line was begun in response to my friends on the Far Left and the Far Right who think “moderates” are opinionless, thoughtless, passionless and, using your word, “moronic”.

    I respectfully disagree.

  9. Bob Dobbins says:

Word is that Barbaro, or someone in the Pentagon, fabricated the story. The Iraq media has been quick to publish accounts of civilian bombings since the insurgency has grown, but not a word about this alleged bombing has come from the Iraqi media. There’s also been somewhat of a refusal by the Bush Administration to confirm this account over the course of the day. If it really happened, it’s horrible, as is the entire state of chaos that has occurred as a result of the US attempting to bring civilization to Iraq, but it might also be wise to make sure this incident actually happened before labeling all Muslims as animals.

  10. Sam says:

How can you be so totally off your rocker to use children to sneak your bombs in. Generally I think even shitty evil people at least believe they are in the right somehow. But how can you use children like that and still justify your beliefs? I have gotten a bit inured to the insanity, but this is madness.

    Really?

If so, you aren’t yet up to speed on the enemy we face.

A lot of people, Condi included, need to wake up to that reality. The “Palestinians” don’t want a state. They want to kill Jews and Americans, believing they will “go to paradise” for their trouble.

“This has to be the most despicable, cowardly action I have ever seen.” Well-

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,,2019724,00.html

Actually, for me, 4 US soldiers killing a 14 year old girl’s family while they raped her, then killing her too seems just as bad, if not worse.

  15. yonason says:

Yes, Brandon, lets keep focusing on ONE (and possibly the worst) of at most a handful of incidents that WILL BE PUNISHED if found to be true.

A Lefty never misses an opportunity to trash the US for a few flaws we all recognize as such and strive to correct, while deliberately minimizing massive perversions others see as normal.

If there is any illness, it is the one suffered by Brandon and those like him.
