DSK May Have Told the Truth After All

The New York Times:

The sexual assault case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn is on the verge of collapse as investigators have uncovered major holes in the credibility of the housekeeper who charged that he attacked her in his Manhattan hotel suite in May, according to two well-placed law enforcement officials.

Although forensic tests found unambiguous evidence of a sexual encounter between Mr. Strauss-Kahn, a French politician, and the woman, prosecutors do not believe much of what the accuser has told them about the circumstances or about herself.

Since her initial allegation on May 14, the accuser has repeatedly lied, one of the law enforcement officials said.

The big “lie” was in her attempt to emigrate to the US. Reportedly there was a mention of a rape then a retraction, it might of gone back and forth. Personally without more detail I don’t know that it even matters at all and even if she was willing to lie to get in the US I wouldn’t consider that to mean it’s likely she would lie about a sexual assault. Reportedly the account of the attack has always been totally consistent and any “lies” would just be attacks against the victims character.

I guess we’ll have to wait until the trial.

I don’t think it’s going to make much difference that she was consistent on her account of the attack. It looks like she lied more than once in response to other questions put to her afterwards. That seriously undermines her credibility.

Let’s also not forget that DSK practically fled the US after it happened. He was taken off an Air France jet, which smells a lot like he was trying to avoid extradition by high-tailing it back to France.

  5. MICHAEL SILVERSTEIN, Wall Street Columnist says:

Of course DSK is totally innocent. His story makes perfect sense. This fat old man, a perfect stranger, comes out of the shower naked and confronts a much younger woman, who immediately falls in love with the fellow and has consensual sex instead of changing the sheets on his bed. Who could possibly see things any other way? I know if I had a young daughter I’d keep her away from Dom. The man is clearly irresistible…

  6. DLS says:

Mr. Silverstein: You confuse Dominique Strauss-Kahn with Bill Clinton.

(insofar as so many women in the USA and elsewhere are concerned)

If the maid has a problem background, so does Pepe Le pew.

This is not the first time Strauss-Kahn is caught up in a sex scandal. In France, a lawyer said his client, a novelist, is likely to file a criminal complaint accusing the IMF chief of sexually assaulting her nine years ago. A French lawmaker has also accused him of attacking other maids during previous stays at the Sofitel luxury hotel in New York.

DLS, what in the sam hill does Bill Clinton have to do with this? There is no need or logical reason to take a thread about an alleged rapist and use it to take a cheap shot (trying to conflate Bill Clinton with an alleged rapist is a cheap shot) against someone who is not an alleged rapist but someone you just don’t like politically. Rape is not, nor should ever be, used as a political issue. Where is your decency, sir?

There are some strange rumors going around. One is that the DA may have been looking for a reason to tank the case. The victims lawyer is accusing the DA of leaking this new “evidence so they can back away from the case. The “Lies” were told to enter the US and about a person who is/may be a drug dealer and close to the victim. Personally I think all the “lies” are explainable and don’t really make me doubt her story much. For example the day after she spoke on the phone with a person in jail discussing the ups and downs of proceeding with the accusation. The victim reportedly has been genitally mutilated and hes been raped multiple times. While it may be horrific that she was focusing on the practical is not unexpected considering the background and nothing in the tape contradicts her story which has remained unchanged. Also the head of the DA office sex crimes resigned and some have indicated there may be a link.

I regret not everybody can understand what I clearly wrote, or objects to it when objections are unmerited. There’s always hope for improvement.

Obviously Bill Clinton’s groupies during 1993-2000 need no more explanation now. (Or at least, their presence shouldn’t. Nor does the application of “falling in love with” or the more correct “lust.”)
