George Bush keeps comparing hiimself to Harry Truman. Instead he should compre himself to Richard Nixon. His administration is corrupted from him on down and the latest attorney general fiasco is another reason this administration is the worst in recent history. Not only should Gonzalex resign but the entire Bush presidency starting with lying George

I now believe that BOTH Clinton and Bush have politicized the AG's office and DOJ. Clinton fired the 93 attorneys so that no one would notice the removal of the one in Arkansas who was pursuing his friend Web Hubbell.

Harriet Miers wanted to do the same in the Bush administration to silence the various scandals that were eroding the GOP's base of power, while putting their own political operatives in place to aggressively go after Democrats. Her plan was rejected by Rove and Sampson, so that they could go after a selective few.

Investigations initiated by this DOJ have involved Democrats over Republicans at a ratio of 5:1. Doesn't that tell the story more than Gonzales' slippery denials???

[...] Joe Gandelman: “When history (versus megasecond blog posts such as this) is written, it’s virtually certain that Gonzales will be NOT be viewed as an independent-thinking attorney who played devil’s advocate with his boss, or someone who was respected as a solid AG and gained the respect of lawyers belonging to both parties. Rather, he is emerging every inch as controversial as President Bill Clinton’s Attorney General Janet Reno, who was thoroughly detested by Republicans. [...]

[...] The scandal over the firings of US Attorneys continues to grow, and while I’ve been sitting this one out, some recent articles have pushed me off the sidelines. (For background and a round-up, see Joe Gandelman’s post.) [...]

A bit of research reveals a history of the Bush administration removing prosecutors from sensitive cases of corruption. Frederick Black was demoted, after complaints were received from Gov Gutierrez of Guam. Black was deep into an investigation of Jack Abramoff's ties to the gov't, and had handed down numerous indictments. After Black's demotion, the probe was dropped.

From the looks of things, we also should be grateful that the GOP-led Congress balked at appointing Harriet Miers to SCOTUS, lol. She is up to her neck in this as well, having engineered the replacement of Bud Cummins in Arkansas with Rove's aide. Miers actually wanted to fire all 93 US Atty's in mid-stream but Gonzales talked her out of it. She would have been even more of a Bush sycophant on the court, than he would have.

It does appear they were trying to take political advantage of the GWOT and the Patriot Act, which bypassed the Senate's approval in appointing the US attorneys. Removing US attorneys that are involved in potentially embarrassing political corruption cases, installing administration cronies, and purposely bypassing another branch of government in the appointment process, while not illegal , does give at least the appearance of a politicized DOJ.

[...] Plus Supreme Court Justice Alberto Gonzales? Bush was once serious about that. What a bad joke. When can we expect Gonzales to resign? [...]

Excuse me, but where did I say anything about her firing prosecutors? The FACT IS that she was despised by Republicans. Unless I missed something I wrote, I never suggested what you're implying I suggested but made a specific statement.

comparing gonzo to reno is the same as saying "well clinton did it"

reno authorized independent prosecutors to investigate the clinton administration

reno never terminated a fed prosecutor purely for political reasons

and the wingnuts despised reno...why?

because she went after domestic terrorists...

why do republicans want to appease terrorists?
