And then there was the actual incident of an Irish band at a concert at Wolf Trap, broadcast on <em>The Thistle and Shamrock</em>. The singer noted between songs that lots of people think Irish music can be terribly gloomy, and he replied that this was because the Irish are a people of great sadness, broken by occasional irrational flashes of gaiety. Good true Irish humor has that dry slyness to it that forces you to grin at the least.
