Just in case you missed the hype about his book, CS, Crichton staertted all this brouahaha that all global warming scientits are just in it for the money. Of course, even though there are singular cases where tha's true, the generalisation is nonsense.

"he is just apparently uncomfortable to realize that the information he provided is consistent with the overall message that global warming might not be caused by rising levels of CO2."

Well, imho he's pissed because only part of his testimony has been used, and selectively the part where he's critisizing some bad habits of his colegue, not the part where he adds his own expertise to the problem.

However, there's one argument that will trump all oppositional voices:
It's IDIOTIC to deliberately err on the bad side! Don't gamble with the future of mankind. The IDIOTIC error with the Iraq war will be nothing, compared to this.

Gray,
Who said anything about Michael Crichton? What's criminal is the degree to which the anthropogenic global warming debate has been politicized. That's what makes it impossible to determine the true science.

And getting back to the story that MvdG pointed to, the complaint by this one oceanographer that he was duped into appearing into this film is IMO just more evidence of the polarity and politicization. There was nothing that he said that was misquoted or twisted; he is just apparently uncomfortable to realize that the information he provided is consistent with the overall message that global warming might not be caused by rising levels of CO2.

And funny too, that the film actually points out that there are scientists who are making the same complaint on the other side; that they actually do NOT believe that global warming is anthropogenic but that there position has been misrepresented by IPCC. In fact some scientists who dissent from IPCC have been falsely included in the IPCC's claim of consensus of 2500 scientists, even though these individuals actually hold the opposite opinion.

“The Great Global Warming Swindle

You shouldn’t believe that Michael Crichton is the leading authority on global warming. Even if it isn’t an incontrovertible fact that climate change is man made, the sheer amount of evidence supporting this view should convince every resonable human that it’s criminal negligence to bet the future of western civilization on the chance that carbon emissions and other side effects of our industrialized societies have nothing to do with it. You wouldn’t take such a chance on a matter of life and death in your personal decisions, why do you think it’s ok on a national level?
