More engaged yes but overlap in regard to underlying community principles, that each side can learn from, from the other. There is always an interplay, coming together and bumping up against the two worlds. Like when bloggers cover the Scooter Libby trial, or when political news is found on citizen videos on You Tube.

Alex, well said. I do think that what you're saying is not completely accurate though, namely: I think that 'bloggers' / those who participate in the blogosphere are far more politically engaged than the average person.

That matters.

Thank you both for the nice comments. I think that the blogosphere - while not sharing all of the same characterisitics - is in some respects a microcosm for the larger electorate. Just as communities and relationships build up in the blogosphere, so too do we all have our larger communities at large. Campaigns are working hard to tap into these, and to subsume them as well!!

[...] Mar 8th, 2007 by mvdg Alex Hammer wrote a great, interesting column for The Moderate Voice. Some information about Alex: he is “a former independent candidate for governor of Maine and the founder and managing editor of Politics 2.0.” “As I sat down to do this column for The Moderate Voice I thought to myself, why do I politically identify with such terms as moderate, Independent and bi-partisan? What do they mean to me, and why do I value them? [...]

Refreshing point of view from an actual candidate.
Where is the most efficient place to apply your talents to promote this kind of thinking?
Working with the RLC or DLC?
Starting a Centrist PAC?
Isn't former independent Maine Governor Angus King supporting Unity '08?
