After reading many comments about Walter Reed on progressive and liberal blogs, I can know understand why many things like urban school district never improve. Too many progressives think that all success is due to the personality and skills of a single manager.
Virtually every comment on the left side of the blogosphere makes the basic argument that if a Democrat was in charge of the White House there would different leadership in place at Walter Reed and everything would be fixed.
I have been amazed at the number of blogs who believe that changing the commander at Walter Reed would change things. They seem to believe that all government is personal and everything is based upon personalities. Find the proper personality to run something and it will run properly.
Maybe that explains why urban school district change superintendents every year or two. The left believes that if you find the “right” manager that any bureaucracy can be made to operate properly.
I think too many commenters fail to understand the nature of large organizations and vastly overestiate the ability of a single dynamic person to make large changes.
Do you have any examples of this SD? Everything I’ve read about this details at least some of the problems as resulting from bureaucratic red tape. The reason this looks so bad politically, however, is the GOP’s constant glorification of our troops. It reveals the hypocrisy of this stance, as Priest’s expose makes it well-known that there has been much neglect in the care of our veterans.
I thought http://www.firedoglake.com/2007/02/19/not-acceptable/ is a good example. I find it amusing that people are claiming that if Democrats were in charge the federal Bureaucracy would work better. I wonder if any of these people have looked at organizations like the DC Public Schools, Amtrack, etc.
SD- Well, if I’m not mistaken, the DC government doesn’t run Amtrak.
As far as federal bureacracies goes, you have to admit that FEMA ran a lot better under James Lee Witt in the Clinton years than it did under Brownie, lol. The GOP can no longer claim that they are the party of small government or that they can cut through bureacratic red tape.
Imo, this just highlights how deeply concerned Bushco is about our troops. What true patriots they are. Was there no anticipation of a need for more facilities for our wounded 4 years ago? Just like there was no post-invasion war plan, there was no real plan for all of those wounded coming back from Iraq.
Maybe, its just a smear from the left-leaning MSM.
