Center of Attention

Extra attention to a few Centrist blogs.

Amba spends some more time and attention to Anna Nicole Smith’s death and… baby. Several men have now said that they could be the father of ANS’s baby. Amba: “Hey, doesn’t DNA testing make short work of these things? This is like some sort of strange Darwinian lottery. These men are all implicitly bragging that they slept with Smith — nobody seems to care about an exclusive. It’s more like an inclusive. And each one is betting that his seed beat out the others. It’s bizarre — some sort of vestigial goddess worship.”

OxBlog’s Patrick Porter notes that “more than a few British and American politicians have a weak grasp of the differences between the denominations of Islam.” He also links to a quiz. My results: “You got 8 of 8 right.” It’s a very easy test.

Also check out this post at Preemptive Karma: ‘Sometimes when you read the foreign press, it can make you feel like you’re living in the Twilight Zone. Would you ever see a headline like this in an American newspaper?

Thank Goodness for Putin! All he wants is to rescue the Iraqi people from U.S. aggression and save the Palestinians from Israeli occupation.”‘

The Gun Toting Liberal on reports that “if Hillary Rodham Clinton wins the presidency, some top Democrats would like to see her husband, former President Bill Clinton, appointed to serve out Hillary’s unexpired Senate term.” GTL: “While the idea of having “President Clinton Iâ€? back in public service again as a United States Senator from New York sounds like an intriguing plan, the “pathwayâ€? being mapped out by these “keyâ€? Democrats to achieve such results is a frightening one, indeed.”

And lastly, also check out QandO’s podcast. QandO’s newest co-blogger Bryan Pick introduces himself, they talk about John Murtha, etc.

Woot! I also got 8/8 on the Islam quiz!

  2. Woot! I also got 8/8 on the Islam quiz!

This makes it official Chris: we can now call ourselves experts.

  3. Marlowecan says:

MVG and Chris…So you guys got perfect scores on knowing about Islam?

But you didn’t know about Britney Spear’s shaving her head this weekend, did you? Or, if you did, you haven’t seen fit to post about it…which shows something of your warped sense of priorities!

Anna Nicole Smith…so last week. Islam…booooorrrinnngggg.

    Britney…you go girl!!!

  4. Chris says:

It’s strange to think that if it weren’t for 9/11, I’d probably have no grasp of the different sects in Islam.

I really have to thank No god but God, by Reza Aslan for helping me really understand how Islam got to where it is today. It’s a wonderfully written book, and I can’t recommend it enough.

And for the record, I did know that Britney shaved her head ;-)

  5. I did know about it Marlow. I am afraid that it’s – indeed – a matter of prioritizing. I’m horrible at it…

  6. Rudi says:

Komrad Marlow – If one didn’t get 8 of 8 they would make BS seem like a nuclear scientist. For BS, the curtain now matches the carpet :-P .

  7. Gray says:

“Sometimes when you read the foreign press, it can make you feel like you’re living in the Twilight Zone.”
Yes, indeed! I feel like that every single day I check the news in the US MSM!
    :P

“Would you ever see a headline like this in an American newspaper?”
Again, every single day! But I’m still grateful. It used to be even worse when 99% of US media were doing the PR job for selling Bush’s Iraq war.
    8-|

  8. Gray says:

    “It’s a very easy test.”
    Indeed. 8 of 8.
However, I would like to see a report on the results. After all this reporting on TV and in the media, certainly almost noone has a result below 5 of 8?

    Hahahahaha…

Gray, you are obviously as out of touch with reality as our compatriots Chris and MVG above. :)

I recall at least two news stories in the past year where senior Western officials (one of these was in the Bush administration) did not know the difference between Sunni and Shi’a, or which one Hezbollah was.

I would be interested to see the results of this test applied to everyone at the higher levels of government. Hahahahahaa….

  10. Gray says:

Come on, Marlowe, those were only administration officials. Surely the average American is smarter than them?
    :D

    Ouch. :)

Worse, you are probably right hahahahaha!

  12. Rudi says:

I believe the new Democrat head on the intelligence commitee failed a similar test. I hope their constituants are just as DENSE.
