Giuliani’s Lead Grows Over McCain Among GOP Primary Voters

A new poll shows former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani expanding his lead over Arizona Senator John McCain among Republican primary voters for the 2008 GOP nomination.

Both are out on the hustings. Both are getting more and more “face time” on cable news networks in terms of coverage and “live” interviews. Both are trying to shore up pockets of resistance among the GOP electorate. Interesting, both are reputed to have short-fuses. Will one of them shoot themselves in the foot with an ill-advised remark or reaction?

Meanwhile, McCain is making it clear that there will be no retreat on his stance backing the administration to solidify its Iraq surge and the war itself.

I think we can be fairly confident that they will both make an inappropriate remark. Perhaps it’s more a question of how many and when?
    Cheers

I’m starting to think that Romney, though not the popular choice, will get the backing of social conservatives and begin to pull away from the pack. The fact that GOP biggies like Jeb Bush are behind him, makes me think that Giuliani won’t survive the primaries to become the nominee. McCain has lost his maverick appeal by allying with the administration too often, and will likewise have problems with social conservatives.

Giuliani is the one to beat and his popularity proves something I’ve believed for a long time: Social conservative causes (real at the grassroots level) are only political posturing at the Party leadership level.

Once Roberts gives his blessing….the rest will vote for whowever that phoney s-o-b tells them to. That crowd reminds me of REv Jones followers: they dip their cup in that vat of grape kool-aide; they drink; they don’t ask questions.

  5. Charles, of course. Don’t you think that they would have pushed through certain laws if they believed in it themselves?

I am delighted that Giuliani’s socially moderate stance is surprisingly uncontroversial with the GOP base, according to recent polls.
