I tend to agree with the people who think the deal has great potential. Look at all of the XBox systems that Skype will run on now. There are 10 million Kinects out there in living rooms that could do a great job with Skype. And Kinect now works with PCs as well. And Microsoft has been moving more towards enabling software on non-Windows platforms recently. We’ll only know as things develop.

I image the people at Vonage, etc., are dancing today. Besides knowing just how bad MS will screw up Skype to their advantage, MS has also just set a new standard for valuations of others in that space. Expect a few more buyouts to occur, but at more reasonable prices.

p.s. – this is the second largest cash deal Balmer has now pulled off. He better pull off a LOT better return than he has gotten from aQuantive ($6B) if he wants to stick around.
