BBC: Feng Shui guru aids zoo’s quest to make monkeys feel at home

Los Angeles Zoo has hired the services of a Feng Shui expert to help three golden monkeys loaned by China feel at home in their future surroundings.

Simona Mainini, who is also a qualified architect, believes the move may be a first in animal enclosure design.

“It’s very experimental. We don’t have any books on feng shui for monkeys,” Ms Mainini told AP news agency.

Feng Shui, an ancient Chinese practice, focuses on arranging objects and spaces to promote health and happiness.

I’m all for making the monkeys comfortable, but feng shui?

Forget all the brouhaha about Feng Shui philosophy (energy flow? nonsense), just see it as a set of rules how to design rooms to make humans feel comfortable in them (and maybe not only humans, but other primates as well). And then remember, the Chinese had some thousand years to figure this out. I don’t know much about it, but what I read about the guidelines makes sense to me. Imho it’s just some psychological experiences framed into a rulebook.

    People will believe anything.
