Well darn Lynx. I thought you were talking about me till you brought up the intelligent people part.

I Know I for one would love to see a cell phone in cars banned unless its a hands free device.

I have some objection to this claim that technology is destroying human contact and making us more isolated. It's repeated often and in many places, and rarely challenged to come up with actual proof. Technology in my life has kept me more, not less, connected. Through technology I stay spiritually, if not physically, close to my boyfriend, who lives 500Km away. Through technology I am able to contact any one of my friends, at any point in the day, even if I'm in the middle of a park or on the street. Through technology I have conversations with intelligent people about politics and social issues that would be impossible with my all-Spanish coworkers. Through this very blog I've actually spoken to real conservatives for the first time in my life (I had a sheltered liberal existence). I think technology has been a force for connection with people.

You could argue that it may encourage a less physical connection, but the phone already did that, and no one seems to be complaining.

I imagine this is something like the use of cellphones while driving. When people are not paying attention to their suuroundings, they are more likely to be involbed in accidents.

The way I understood it, the ban would only affect street crossings, not sidewalk walking, but maybe I'm wrong.
