MSNBC: Newspaper columnist Molly Ivins has died of breast cancer at age 62.

AUSTIN, Texas – Best-selling author and columnist Molly Ivins, the sharp-witted liberal who skewered the political establishment and referred to President Bush as “Shrub,” died Wednesday after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 62.
David Pasztor, managing editor of the Texas Observer, confirmed her death.
The writer, who made a living poking fun at Texas politicians, whether they were in her home base of Austin or the White House, revealed in early 2006 that she was being treated for breast cancer for the third time.

One of the all time great political writers!
my heart is breaking….
While it is always tragic to hear of a person’s death, knowing that I will no longer be subjected to her cat-screeching, fingernails-across-a-blackboard polemics is at least a small comfort.
AR Is she the Lefts version of Ann Couter? Her humor was great.
See Molly Ivins at her satirical best in a video called The Dildo Diaries…here:

Damn.
Molly Ivins was one of the sharpest, quickest political wits I have ever had the pleasure to read. I will miss her and her neverending quest to fight with her words and thoughts for the people.

Class act there Austin. Lets hope for your sake that you’re named Austin and don’t live in Austin.
We’re gonna miss Molly. Just like we miss Ann. And hopefully others will step up with the snark and drawl telling it like it is.
The Texas Observer has a great cover / spread on her tonight.

My all-time favorite Ivins quote:
“Many people did not care for Pat Buchanan’s speech; it probably sounded better in the original German.”
Of course we must judge AustinRoth’s comment by what he might say about the passing of Coulter or Malkin.

Some perspective here, please.
I did not attack her as a person, nor say I was glad she was dead. I indeed said that it is always tragic to hear of a person’s death.
I did not proceed to demonize her or say that she was a bad person or had bad intent, as many of Coulter and Malkin’s critics do.
I said nothing negative about her personally at all, in fact, and confined my other comment to one about her style of presenting her point of view. She was a political opinion writer, after all, so I fail to see how I was out of bounds.
She in fact took great pride in being obstinate, over-bearing, and annoying, and never made any effort to ‘sugar coat’ her views, or moderate them in any way. She enjoyed getting people riled, and was indeed quite good at that.
So, for one who as a whole rarely agreed with her, or particularly cared for views or enjoyed her writing style, saying that I wouldn’t miss her professional output is hardly the height of crassness, IMHO.
BTW – Austin is a reference to where I live, not my first name.
“Ok, so you have educational tools, and massagers. What are those little ones?”
“Oh, those are butt plugs.”
Priceless.
