I’ve given up on getting rid of Rove- he may actually be more of a hindrance to the GOP these days anyway. But I partially am inclined to believe Libby’s defense when it claims that AG Gonzales saved Rove from being Bubba’s roommate. After all, Bush was counting on him to save his administration from having to answer all of those subpoenas from the Democrats.

In reality, it gives additional credence to Libby’s fundamental defense, that he (and people in related lines of work) were very busy, doing many things at one time, engaging in countless conversations with hundreds of people every week, and thus that he can’t be expected to have perfect recall of every one of them. Dickerson’s not lying, Fleischer’s not lying, they both just have different recollections of a particular conversation. One (or both) of them may be wrong in their recollection, but that is not perjury, which requires an intent to testify falsely.

Yes, I agree about the press corps- investigative hardly applies- too bad we don’t have a team like the old Woodward and Bernstein to crack Plamegate. But who would play Deep Throat?????

I’m intrigued by the case, partly because of all of the conservative arguments I listened too claiming that Libby and Rove were falsely maligned, and that the prosecution was a witchhunt. We also heard that Valerie Plame wasn’t really covert, that she had outed herself at cocktail parties many times, and that she didn’t do anything very important for the CIA anyway.

In the Clinton years, the GOP ran investigations non-stop. Some have just recently ended. So, with our national security at risk now why would we want to ignore the goings-on in the WH and Cheney’s office? If nothing else it is a fascinating look at how the VP used the press to discredit its enemies.

This truly is a very interesting case. We’ve already seen many things, but something tells me that ‘the best is yet to come’.
