Sadly, these are becoming all too common at universities in the south. They’re underground events, by no means terribly widely attended when compared to the university population as a whole, but still too prevalent, and utterly despicable.
As a student at a southern university (UGA to be specific), I haven’t seen too many instances of situations like this… Last fall, the Chi Phi frat got in trouble for showing people in the student center black porn and photographing their reactions (they maintain that the us of black porn as opposed to any other type was purely for financial reasons).
Despite how dumb the people who threw this party were, and probably still are, one has to wonder that if another ethnic group (like whites) were stereotyped in such a manner, if the president of the university would get involved like this…
I mean, I’m all for dressing up and getting drunk, but…..
I’m surprised they even acknowledged it to be MLK Day; the old-school racists just called it Robert E. Lee day instead.
