Kim why wont you guys and gals get on the band wagon to stop these NEWLY industrialized nations which are toasting the planet with Incredible amounts of Pollution?????

Why is it okay for them to toast YOUR world??

What conceivable argument can you have to justify them destroying the only planet we have?

Because they are new to industry its okay to destroy the world? Because they are just learning how to be industrialized its okay for you and me to breath air we can see? To watch our children or grandchildren live in Igloos??

Im sorry but join the movement. They need to be held accountable and NOW....not 100 years from now when we are all wearing gas masks.

Oh and with the flare of cynicism Im so fond of using............BAD USA BAD....We all know its your fault and those silly chinamen who have 7 of the 10 most heavily polluted cities in the world and have acid rain falling on their nation and are loosing foilage at the rate of 1300 square miles a year...............thats okay........its the USA's fault, we all know that.

As long as your in denial, you can't face tough decisions about a problem like this. We have been in denial as a nation, and need to come to grips with this issue. We are supposed to be a world leader- a benevolent force for change. Pointing fingers at countries who are even bigger offenders than we are serves no purpose. China and India are newly-industrialized countries- we are supposed to be leaders in technology. And there is nothing wrong with pointing out errors in our policy. It is the first step towards finally facing reality.

I'm as pro environment as they come. However I refuse to give into the America Bashers assertion that we are the SOLE culprit in this environmental battle to save this planet. Those that want to continue to bash America are just clueless. China, India and the Former Soviet Union are Causing the extreme escalation of Global warming and YET its business as usual. THE USA is to blame for it all.

BLAME AMERICA. While I will grant you that we have our role.......These countries are far outstripping us in TOTAL pollution pouring into the AIR and yet its BLAME AMERICA.

Smooth.

And Green......no one is accusing you personally of NOT loving America or Loving your planet. I think what many people fail to understand on forums like this is that there is JUST NOT AMERICANS reading and posting. There are lots of NON AMERICANS here as well.

Say what you want, believe what you want, think what you want.......IM pointing out that CHINA, INDIA and the FORMER SOVIET UNION are quickly becoming the main polluters of this world now. While America tries to clean up her act and make the world a better place these places are POURING the pollution into the air, into the water and into the ground and yet most of you continue to scream insults at the USA.

Your arguments are old and outdated. The world is changing and your arguments are NOT.

"Everyone wants to shut down the factories, store the cars and basically destroy the USA."

Let's see, a founder of Greenpeace supports nuclear energy. Most of the news I read concerning what we should do concerns new technology to make us more energy efficient (LED light bulbs, compact fluorescents, lightweight strong materials to use for car parts, new insulation methods for houses.) and new energy sources (biomass, wind, tidal, improvements in solar, safer nuclear plants, fuel cells) yet the ignorant postulate that "everyone" wants to end our way of life. While ther might be some tiny fringe who thinks that way the influential people who are sincerely worried about warming don't waste a second thinking that way.

upinsmoke, when big per-capita polluters change their behavior, it results in big benefits. Countries in which most can't afford to waste energy have a harder time trimming, well, waste.

And just stuff your "America haters" crap. That has no place here. We love our country and our planet.

I won't bother debating with you further.

The internet is filled with China's extravagant pollution but here ya go............. oh not sure how to properly link using this blogs format.

USA Today/Money.
[China's economic boom has an environmental dark side. China now boasts five of the ten most polluted cities in the world; 70% of the water that flows through China's urban areas is unfit for drinking or fishing; and severely degraded land or desert, which now claims 1/4 of China's land, is advancing at a rate of 1300 sq. miles per year.

EIA.DOE.GOV Country Analysis Briefs.
Air pollution
A report released in 1998 by the World Health Organization (WHO) noted that of the ten most polluted cities in the world, seven can be found in China. Sulfur dioxide and soot caused by coal combustion are two major air pollutants, resulting in the formation of acid rain, which now falls on about 30% of China's total land area. Industrial boilers and furnaces consume almost half of China's coal and are the largest single point sources of urban air pollution.

No its not just the way it is. Thats BS.

When a country is fixing to fly past us in total emmisions and FRY this earth to oblivion for us to then stand back and spank ourselves for letting it happen is STUPID> You guys are caught up in PER CAPITA stupidity. Casper Wyoming at one time had the highest suicide rate per capita in the USA.....SO what!!!!????? New York City had 32 times more suicides per year then Casper but somehow this translated into Casper must be a horrid city to live in.

I cant believe I keep hearing this silliness. BAD USA.......BAD......while its okay for China and India in the next few years to Destroy this planet.....We must continue to focus on the USA as the source of all evil and how its our fault because we buy SOME>>>SOME of their goods.

BASICALLY your all saying..........WE HATE THE USA......WE HATE THE USA and when the world smothers in its own smog produced by China,India and the USSR with HELP from the USA it will still be COUGH>>>>WE HATE>>>COUGH>>>THE USA>>>>COUGH.

Upinsmoke,

If this ever occurred to you, we need to fix the problems here before we can begin to address the rest of the world's problems, that's what's wrong w/ this country. I mean it IS also painfully obvious that countries w/ extremely high populations who are now industrializing are contributing heavily, my senile grandmother could've told you that. But we gotta fix here first, it's just the way it is.

Upinsmoke, first, I'm pleased to see you admitting carbon emissions are a problem. China and India are very important places to watch for the future. However, today the greatest impact and improvement would be for the USA to improve. Check this map of carbon emissions per capita. Of course, the USA is the leader by far along with Saudi Arabia, Australia and Canada, while China and India are below the world average.

The United States still consumes three times as much grain per person as China and five times as much as India, notes the report. US per-capita carbon dioxide emissions are six times the Chinese level and 20 times the Indian level. If China and India were to consume resources and produce pollution at the current US per-capita level, it would require two planet Earths just to sustain their two economies.
China is catching up--not per capita but in terms of total carbon emissions. See HERE for ecological footprint data (US and China close). However, our government has continually fought any attempt to apply environmental or social (wages, worker protections, fair trade) pressure on foreign producers of cheap goods for American businesses. They characterize these as anti-free-market, anti-trade and anti-business. We need to start seeing it as survival to insist that our trading partners address these issues or lose our business. However, Tom Friedman may be right that China will go green, with low cost and scalable green technologies and then "clean our clock" because we are still lagging in innovation, largely because of the petroleocracy that has run our country during this critical time.

However, Tom Friedman may be right that China will go green, with low cost and scalable green technologies and then “clean our clock” because we are still lagging in innovation, largely because of the petroleocracy that has run our country during this critical time.

Never said we ARENT guilty. Its just everyone wants to blame the USA and ignore the rest of the culprits who are WAY MORE GUILTY then we are.

CHINA has a voracious appetite. They have over 60 Car manufacturing companies going right now and adding more.........in 20 or 30 years they will turn the world into Los Angeles at rush hour.

Doomsday is upon us but I do not fear nuclear weapons. I fear Global warming set off by the likes of China, India and The former USSR who are just now coming up to speed and wanting to feed the voracious appetites of their citizens.

They are the source of Global Danger.......not the USA. When the freeze hits the Mid latitudes and Americans and Europeans and Chinesse are forced south because no one of course can live in North Pole Conditions.....then you will have the armageddon of nation rising against nation for the right to LIVE/EXIST and eek out sustanace from a world that can now only support 1 billion not 8.3 billion people.

ChuckPrez while I agree that the USA is guilty you can continue to do the fashionable.........keep pointing the finger at the USA but start looking for a condo on the equator.........preferably about 30 to 40 feet above sea level. I know I'm in the market.

FYI, UpInSmoke

If China were to use the amount of energy we use here per capita we'd need Four Earths to take care of them. We're guilty too, man.

Global warming is a fact. Republicans can deny it and do so for one reason. Everyone wants to shut down the factories, store the cars and basically destroy the USA. While tempting this would actually do nothing for global warming because the main culprits to Global warming are not the USA.

The main Culprits are CHINA, INDIA and the Former Soviet UNION. They have zero clean air standards and while the USA is busy slapping huge enormous regulations on our business and industry and autos these countries are pouring and i do mean POURING pollution into the air at rates that make the USA seem a third rate polluter.

By the time anything is done.....it will be too late. I recommend that you firmly bend over place your head between your legs and kiss..........well you know the drill. All the while the environmentalists have been busy bashing the USA we are in fact the only one that has TRIED to do anything about global warming despite not really embracing it as FACT.
