John Cole’s review of Superman Returns: “Rather than giving this movie two thumbs down, I instead choose to give it the finger. This movie was clearly made to make the Hulk remake revival look good by comparison. Don’t buy it. Don’t rent it. Don’t watch it. And if anyone tells you it was good, remember their names and ignore their movie advice in the future.”
I agree with that review. A very disappointing movie. X-Men 3, much better. And by far, for me, the best flick I’ve seen in a long time was “Lucky # Slevin.” Although I have yet to see “The Departed,” which I understand has a shot at best picture. (As you can tell, I’m very much in favor of movies where things explode. Went to see “The Good Shephard.” Intriguing flick. Angelina Jolie was easy to look at, as always. But nothing blew up. What’s up with that?
ahh, what a shame. I’ll have to check the ‘rating’ then with a bit of luck I can use that as a legitimate excuse to stop the children from watching it – still there’s always comic books!
Cheers
Same here, Superman Returns was rather boring.
I wouldn’t quite give it the finger, but the movie was pretty bad. No drama, no tension, no character growth, and not even any really cool fights or explosions. You just see superman catching and moving heavy objects over and over. I get it, he’s….. super. YAWN!
his reasoning for not likeing the movie was because is wasnt like supes 1????
i didnt like superman 1….supes 2 was flawed, but much better
at least in supes lives, luthor stays bald
supes lives is not bad because it isnt like supes 1, its bad because it tries too hard to pay homage to supes 1, instead of remaking the character, the way batman begins did
and pete…x3 was a huge pile of shite
I thought the movie was mediocre at best. But giving it a finger, an utterly classless act, is a bit harsh.
Batman Begins and X2 show how to make a really good superhero movie: Pay attention to the writers who have been telling really good stories about these guys for decades, and adapt their best stuff. X3 would have been even better if it stuck to that formula. The choice to make Superman Lives based on the old movie series was pretty bad (but it was much better than some of the awful, AWFUL movie scripts going around a few years ago)
Superman Returns was better than Superman III or IV. I would agree with the description as mediocre but I am also willing to hope that it can get better in any sequels.
