Dennis Prager’s latest response column to the outroar sparked by his attack on Rep. Keith Ellison using the Koran in his ceremonial swearing-in finally starts to show some hints of contrition.
Forget Pager and Virgil Goode, the Virgina Republican Rep rasing a stink over this. Ellison is doing the extremely classy thing of using THOMAS FUCKING JEFFERSON`S PERSONAL Koran to swear on. Awesome, If T.J. was still alive he`d be living in Goode`s district. Game set match, checkmate, PWN3D
Yes he does, Laura. Apparently he nor you believes in the Constitution of this country or Freedom of (from) Religion for that matter either. But I have yet to see you refute anything I’ve directed toward you.
This guy doesn’t know when to quit. As you’ve so well put it David, Christianity has been used to justify many good AND bad things. The two most horrific things Spain was ever known for, the Inquisition and “la Conquista” (the conquest of America) were both done in the name of the Bible. If the Bible were all this country needed we’d use that, instead of the Constitution. One can understand fearing basic freedoms being threatened by religious extremists, that’s partly why we need the damn Constitution!
I love that he just puts “Judeo-Christian” out there and pretends that most of those opposing Ellison recognize Judaism as a founding part of US morality. Most of those agreeing that Ellison should swear on the Bible probably think the Torah is a chapter of the Koran and certainly think that the nation should be Christian, not Judeo-Christian!
I also find it highly offensive the way he offhandedly pretends that “secular Europe” is shipping Jews off to the ovens. Europe generally is much more critical of Israel yes, and Jews are much less represented in the public sphere (or rather they are represented in proportion to their population, which is tiny) but they are far from persecuted, and anti-semitic attacks are vigorously investigated and pursued. Newsflash Prager: It’s probably much easier to be a Jew in ultra-secular Sweden than in deeply Christian Alabama.
There is a synagogue a little over a mile from my house in the oldest part of Huntsville,AL since 1898. Stop using Alabama as a litmus when you don’t know.
Oh btw one other thing, Jews held some of the highest positions in the Confederate gov/military as well. Do a Google search for that one, it isn’t hard to find.
Jeesh… how far can one backtrack without admitting defeat? It’s kind of like Taiwan saying that it still controls China…
I see the Holocaust Museum has distanced itself from Prager.

He has nothing to apologize for.
