God Has Talked To Pat Robertson Again

He has gotten another message from Him again. Sometimes He gives him good advice, sometimes a bum steer — and by that we don’t mean a bull asking “Hey, you got change?” at a 7-Eleven.

But the latest message he gets from his private pipeline is: be afraid, Americans:

Evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson said Tuesday that God has told him that a terrorist attack on the United States would cause a “mass killing” late in 2007.

“I’m not necessarily saying it’s going to be nuclear,” he said during his news-and-talk television show “The 700 Club” on the Christian Broadcasting Network.

“The Lord didn’t say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that.”

Robertson said God told him about the impending tragedy during a recent prayer retreat.

God also said, he claims, that major cities and possibly millions of people will be affected by the attack, which should take place sometime after September.

We recently featured a post here about a Canadian spy agency warning about how easy it would be for terrorists to make a “dirty bomb.” But apparently their source wasn’t as good as Robertson’s…who has admittedly had mixed results in his — or, rather, his Source’s — accuracy so far:

Robertson suggested in January 2006 that God punished then-Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon with a stroke for ceding Israeli-controlled land to the Palestinians.

The broadcaster predicted in January 2004 that President Bush would easily win re-election.

Bush won 51 percent of the vote that fall, beating Democratic Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts.

In 2005, Robertson predicted that Bush would have victory after victory in his second term. He said Social Security reform proposals would be approved and Bush would nominate conservative judges to federal courts.

Lawmakers confirmed Bush’s 2005 nominations of John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. But the president’s Social Security initiative was stalled.

“I have a relatively good track record,” he said. “Sometimes I miss.”

In May, Robertson said God told him that storms and possibly a tsunami were to crash into America’s coastline in 2006.

Even though the U.S. was not hit with a tsunami, Robertson on Tuesday cited last spring’s heavy rains and flooding in New England as partly fulfilling the prediction.

Oh.

Maybe his track record is good, but his god shouldn’t ever miss, so that’s not at all impressive. I mean, if I were a god then I wouldn’t miss any of them.

  2. Has Pat been properly evaluated for schizophrenia?

  3. Lynx says:

DBK my thoughts exactly. If you’re getting your news from the Man Upstairs then anything less than a 100% track record sounds like LYING.

I find it curious that Pat Robertsons personal God would choose the US as the country deserving of smiting. Leaving aside the fact that he mellowed out in the New Testament what with being a daddy (Smiting civilizations is SO Old Testament), one would think that there are places more deserving. I can think of literally no place on earth where millions simultaneously deserve death, but plenty that have worse track records in terms of Christian practice than the US. Presumably this Smiting would hit all sorts of people: innocent children, pious Christians, everyone. Doesn’t sound like a loving God to me.

Ah. So that’s why we didn’t get a hurricane this year!

  5. Sam says:

I didn’t know Mr. Robertson was into LARP’ing. Learn something new everyday, whether you want to or not it seems.

  6. Davebo says:

Why isn’t the liberal mainstream media reporting on all the good things God has spoken with Robertson about?

Typical they’d harp on one conversation about a horrible terrorist attack in the US and never mention a word about how God just loved the paisley tie Robertson wore on Sunday.

  7. Of course we must also give credit where credit is due. Robertson said a tsunami would hit the US in 2006 and (contrary to the information in the story) the US was indeed hit by a tsunami.(http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/breaking_news/16021893.htm)

As I said elsewhere, “it probably hit the right state as far as Mr. Robertson is concerned, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t what he had in mind.”

  8. Pyst says:

Hahaha good one Sam, LARPing I love it. If we are to have said disaster may the ground zero be the 700 club’s HQ on a day Pat is at work.

  9. SurgeJack says:

He also told a woman not to marry a Muslim she was interested in because he’d treat her like dirt, and last year he predicted certain weather-related catastrophes that…guess what…didn’t ever happen! Golly gee, ma, it’s like he’s full of dunk!

  10. Laura says:

Such a prediction is not out of the realm of possibility. Does anyone doubt islamic terrorists have the desire to strike us with weapons of mass destruction? I’m quite sure if Robertson or anyone predicted in January of 2001 that terrorists will fly planes into the WTC and knock down both towers, that also would have been met with derision and mockery. Despite all that has occured in recent years, liberals still don’t believe we have enemies who wish us harm and are prepared to carry it out. They think Pat Robertson and Christian fundamentalists are more dangerous to America than al qaeda.

“He also told a woman not to marry a Muslim she was interested in because he’d treat her like dirt”
    ………..
I just can’t imagine where Robertson would get such an absurd idea since women are treated with such respect and equality in the muslim world.

  12. Ken says:

Laura, I believe this is a “centrist” website, not a right wing website. May I suggest PoliPundit or FreeRepublic?

  13. Lynx says:

Laura you are willfully missing the point. I could stand here right now and say “this year many thousands will die in Iraq, God told me so!” and I’d be right, doesn’t make me a visionary. I could also predict disaster after disaster for the US and someday, being that shit happens, I’d be right, doesn’t make me a prophet. Robertson is either a wackjob or a fraud. For God’s sake he blamed 9/11 on the feminists and Gays! We snark because supposedly this is a guy that is widely respected in the rightwing universe, and he’s so patently out there that he hurts their cause almost every time he opens his mouth.

  14. MANNY BUENDIA says:

ROBERTSON ISN’T A JERK. THE JERKS ARE THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTE MONEY FOR HIS TV SHOW.

  15. Why can’t Laura stick around? If TMV becomes another “its OUR way or the highway” site how is it any different from the DK or LGF?

  16. Chuck Prez says:

Laura me and you need to go out for a drink and talk…for real.
