The National Prayer Breakfast and The Family

Yesterday morning, Pres. Obama addressed the Great Annual National Public Display of Religious Piety in Washington, D.C. The GANPDRP (aka The National Prayer Breakfast), as we all know (or should, as informed political junkies), is sponsored by The Family, an organization that has been associated with support for venomous anti-gay legislation in Uganda (which would make it a capital offense to be openly gay or lesbian, bisexual or transgendered, and a crime punishable by prison sentence to be aware that someone is gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered and fail to turn that person in to the police). Last month, David Kato, a Ugandan LGBT rights activist, was brutally beaten to death by unknown assailants.

Naturally, Pres. Obama did not include references to any of this in his lengthy speech, which you can read in full at Pam’s House Blend. Pam’s commentary is also well worth reading, and she includes links to other commentary.
